Asif Hoque (b. 1991; Rome, Italy) creates impressionistic mindscapes that transform inner experience into luminous landscapes. Inspired by the atmospheric light of Joaquín Sorolla, the perceptual discoveries of Impressionism, and the contemplative vision of Agnes Pelton, his paintings explore imagination as a place that can be wandered, remembered, and felt. Blending observation with intuition, he creates environments that exist between memory and reality, where recurring figures emerge as expressions of thought, emotion, memory, and dreams rather than characters in a fixed narrative.

For Hoque, landscape becomes a metaphor for consciousness itself. Through shifting light, color, and symbolic forms, his paintings dissolve the boundaries between the inner and outer world, inviting quiet reflection on the ways memory and perception shape experience. Rather than documenting what is seen, his work reveals what is felt, encouraging a slower way of looking and suggesting that the landscapes we carry within us can be just as vast and meaningful as those we encounter around us.

His work is in the permanent collections of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, FL, and the Xiao Hui Wang Art Museum, Suzhou, China. The artist studied fine art at Pratt Institute and Hunter College. Hoque currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
